14th Annual QLA Conference Highlights Sheraton West Port Lakeside Chalet St. Louis, Missouri October 29 & 30, 1999

 

The 14th annual QLA conference held Halloween weekend attracted 98 participants including 33 first time attendees. Held at the attractive Sheraton West Port Lakeside Chalet, this two-day conference began with a "Get-Together" for early arrivals sponsored by Austin Medical Products. Friday night's featured speaker, Dr. Angela Grupas of Get S.E.T. Communications of St. Louis, presented her 10-point "Ducks to Eagles: Coping with Change." The presentation was both thought provoking as well as humorous. Following Dr. Grupas' presentation, Ann Walker and Sherwood "Elvis" White shared a few songs. The evening began with a patient/spouse panel moderated by Joe Turant. Saturday began with the QLA business meeting following by the presentation of the published article: "Conversion of Failed Illeal Pouch-Anal Anastomoses to Continent Ileostomy" by Dr. Donald Behrens, St. Louis, MO. This years luncheon/auction brought in a total of $1,721. A physician panel moderated by Dr. Ron Gaskin of St. Louis, MO concluded the afternoon activities. Saturday evening, QLA participants experienced an enjoyable "Halloween Theme" dinner/dance with the band "Classic Gold" featuring Ann Walker. Several participated in a costume contest where Joe "the Screamer" Turant was awarded the grand prize. Photos from the conference.
