A Messages from your President…
Our previous outreach to you was regarding the 2020 QLA Conference scheduled to be in Clearwater, Fl. in September. At that time we were vacillating and still unsure what even the short term future might dictate. In a previous email, I indicated that we would render a decision in early July. This is a little earlier than promised. With what we have learned over the past three months regarding the actions being taken on the part of institutions and private business as well as government entities, it appears that our membership is best served by not attempting to assemble this year. If we are able to make the arrangements, it is our ambition to simply move our conference forward one year and have a grand reunion at the same location in 2021.
Our postponement of the conference also eliminates our bylaw mandated business meeting where the election of officers is conducted by the membership. The board members whose term would conclude this year have all agreed to seek another term.
- President 2-year term
- Secretary 2-year term
- Director 3-year term
If you would like to nominate someone for an office, please submit their name to the QLA home office before Sept 1, 2020.
A downside of our not having a conference this year is that the annual auction is our largest internal fundraiser. It pays a lot of our fixed annual expenses. The IRS has provided a new bill that could help tremendously. Even though you may not itemize tax deductions, you are allowed to deduct up to $300 in 2020 for a contribution made to a non-profit such as QLA. Your CPA or tax preparer should be familiar with SEC.2104 and the $2T CoronaVirus bill. Please consider QLA in this regard during 2020. In view of our reduced revenue from 2019, this bill could be our lifesaver. Donations can be made by either sending a check to the QLA home office or through our website.
On behalf of your board, I extend our wishes for your continued good health and well-being for 2020 and beyond. We join in thanking you for your understanding that our decisions and actions are always in the interest of benefiting our membership first and foremost. Please stay safe.
